About the trainers
Dr. Joachim Bald (Technical Elective A Risk and Financial Management for MFIs)
Joachim is one of those rare people who can get very excited about accountancy and treasury management. He holds a PhD in economics and is a Chartered Management Accountant.
Joachim has worked for Frankfurt School for more than 10 years and our colleagues are slowly getting fed up with the ceaseless songs of praise about Joachim’s unsurpassed skills in the introduction of currency and interest rate risk management applications or his state-of-the-art approach to asset and
liability management training, that we hear from our MFI clients in Serbia, Turkey, Tunisia, Pakistan Congo and many other countries. Joachim’s publications include Treasury and Liquidity Management manuals for MFIs, developed for the Frankfurt School. Currently, Joachim is preparing a study on core deposit supply in low-income banking for CGAP.
Michael Hill (Technical Elective B SME Banking)
Mike – exceptionally - combines 30 years banking sector experience with excellent training skills. Within Barclays Bank (UK), he held several operational and management positions, focusing on MSME lending and retail lending business. Since 1992, he has worked as an independent trainer and business advisor for banks, focusing on MSME lending (MSME Credit Risk Management Principles and Practice, MSME Problem Loan Management, and Credit Audit Principles and Practice), MSME marketing and sales as
well as Trainings for internal bank trainer and management. His wide span of regional experience includes Albania, China, Croatia and Turkey. Mike is a cliché representative of superb British humour – that is not the only reason, however, that Mike’s training sessions are always hugely popular with the participants.
Mike is also a stout Manchester United fan and willing to share football trivia to anyone who makes the mistake about inquiring about the current Premier League...
Silke Müffelmann (Trends Elective Transformation and Deposit Mobilisation)
Silke is Senior Project Manager and Head of the Micobanking Department at Frankfurt School International Advisory Services. She is one of the most sought after experts on MFI transformation and deposit mobilisation worldwide. Even though she claims to be happy "back home" in Germany after 16 years of international travel (IPC/Pro Credit for 13 and CHF for 3 years), we hardly ever get to see her at Head Quarters in Frankfurt because of her many assignments in Latin America, Africa, Eastern Europe and Asia. After all these years, Silke has not lost her inquisitive mind: if you join her elective, be prepared to benefit from her vast experience and her expert knowledge – and to be quizzed on the way your institution does things, and why.
Eric Cimon (Trends Elective 1 Product Development & Trends Elective 2 Microinsurance)
An American, Eric defeats the stereotype that US citizens know no other language but English. Of course, being half French, he has had the unfair advantage of having been brought up bilingually. But he has tackled Russian and even German, out of his own free will and chosen Berlin as his hometown. Eric is a seasoned expert in insurance having held management positions with multinational insurance and asset management companies such as Allianz, Skandia/Old Mutual Group and Prudential Financial Inc. He has done his fair share of development too, with focus on Russia, Eastern Europe and Africa. Eric is a fierce advocate of the dictum “avoid death by powerpoint” and prefers interactive teaching.
Dr. Roxana Savescu (Technical Elective C Rural and Agricultural Finance)
Roxana joined Frankfurt School’s consultant team in 2006, after working in various microfinance projects in her native country, Romania, for more than 6 years. Since then, Roxana has been involved in the implementation of microfinance, rural finance and financial education projects in numerous countries including Moldova, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and others. Currently, Roxana is working as a lecturer at the University in Sibiu, Romania.
Roxana is an experienced trainer and a permanent member of Frankfurt School’s team of Summer Academy lecturers. Her consolidated practical experience in the field allows her to share valuable and interesting real-life cases with her audience. Perfectly combined with theoretical examples, her trainings make for an exciting learning experience.
Always optimistic, Roxana enjoys any moment that life is offering. She is capable of seeing positive aspects in anything and manages to find a reason to smile every day.
