Programme Overview
Prof. Dr. Carsten Herrmann-Pillath, Academic Director Business Studies and Cultual Sciences
"The regional economies of Europe and Asia will strengthen their bonds, to the benefit of both. There is a huge need for highly qualified, welltrained managers who can take this process forward. Our graduates understand the mindsets of both regions, and can manage large international projects from inception through to successful conclusion."
Structure with Individuality
The Master of International Business seeks a fine balance between a structured approach and the freedom for students to design their own path. The curriculum defines minimum standards for various aspects regarding international business, from which each student’s own development paths can diverge. Personal development is strongly aided by regular contact with lecturers of the Frankfurt School. At the beginning, the students of the MIB will be asked to identify individual priorities and subjects that they will choose to deepen further.
For example, if a student identifies an interest in personnel matters and human resources, the student may explore this topic further by doing an internship in theis field during the international excursion seminar, the electives in the fourth semester, as well as in writing the Master’s thesis. All together, more than one third of the MIB study period can be designed on a personalized basis.
Studying Abroad
The MIB also integrates the possibility to study abroad as part of the curriculum. The Frankfurt School has a number of partner universities that share the Frankfurt School’s commitment to quality curriculum. With a particular eye on China, the Frankfurt School’s own East-West Centre of Business Studies and Cultural Science also has connections with a variety of partner universities in the country for students to choose from.
Internship
Students must complete an internship during the programme. The internship must be international in content and must take place either in the region chosen for the first concentration or in the area chosen for the second concentration (e.g. Finance or Healthcare).
Timeline
The Master of International Business degree can be completed in four semesters. It is a non-consecutive, full-time program. A total of 13 programme modules, including completion of the Master’s thesis in the fourth semester, consist of 120 ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) credits.
