Living in Germany

With one of the largest economies in the world, Germany leads the way in innovation and business, and Frankfurt is at the heart of it all. What better place to get a Masters degree in business? Find out more about what life is like in Germany.

Food
As one would expect from one of the most international cities in Europe, Frankfurt has a large variety of eating options. Ranging from the trendy Westside bars to the more student friendly cheapo Italian restaurants of Bockenheim, the working class and student quarter, there is soemthing for every budget. Affordable Doner Kebab shops can also be found on practically every block. Local Frankfurt specialties such as Apfelwein(apple wine) or Handkäs mit Musik (special cheese with vinegar sauce) can also be found in many traiditional-style restaurants.

Religion
Germany as a whole remains a fairly secular country. The large majority of the population is Christian however, with 38% considering themselves Protestant and about 34% Catholic. Large Jewish and Muslim minorities can also be found.

Weather
Although Germany’s weather is quite varied, Frankfurt enjoys a mostly temperate climate, rarely entering into the extreme lows or highs. Winter temperatures stay around freezing, while summer temperatures in Frankfurt average in the low to mid 20s. Frankfurt generally receives more rainfall during the summer months.

Nightlife
Nightlife options abound in Frankfurt, from the classic student discos, to a wide range of beer-gardens, bars and discos. As you would expect, practically any style of music can be found, from African or Latin American music, to popular jazz or techno. Many options are clustered around the areas of the northern part of the downtown around ‘Fressgasse’, Zeil, Römerberg or Sachsenhausen.

Language
The German language is spoken by more than 120 million people in Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and in parts of Belgium, Northern Italy and Eastern France. While knowing German when you arrive is not essential, German is a key language of the European Union, and learning it will improve your success on the job market.
