Curriculum
The Master of Finance enables you to pursue in-depth studies in one of four "concentrations", based on a common foundation of shared core modules. You choose one of the following four concentrations:
- Capital Markets;
- Corporate Finance;
- Accounting & Taxation;
- Development Finance.
SEMESTER 1
The programme begins with 5 foundational core modules in the first semester:
- Statistics for Business & Finance;
- Principles of Economics & Monetary Economics;
- Financial Accounting & Management;
- Principles of Management;
- Principles of Finance.
SEMESTER 2
In the second semester, there are 3 further core modules:
- Leadership & Intercultural Management;
- Corporate Finance;
- Risk Management.
The second semester also offers the first 2 of your 5 concentration modules.
SEMESTER 3
In the third semester, there are 3 more concentration modules, plus a further core module:
- Business & Corporate Ethics.
You also take the first of your three elective modules.
SEMESTER 4
In the fourth semester, you choose 2 further Electives and you also work your Master's thesis. Optionally, you may also use the fourth semester for a study abroad period, taking modules in one of our partner universities.
CONCENTRATION MODULES (in Semesters 2 & 3)
The CAPITAL MARKETS concentration has the following 5 modules:
- Derivative Analysis (shared with the Corporate Finance concentration);
- Structured Products & Interest Rate Models;
- Credit Risk Default Models and Credit Derivatives;
- Financial Engineering;
- Market Estimation & Forecasting.
THE CORPORATE FINANCE concentration has the following 5 modules:
- Derivative Analysis (shared with the Capital Markets concentration);
- Financial Markets & Institutions;
- Debt Capital Markets;
- Equity Capital Markets;
- International Financial Management.
The ACCOUNTING & TAXATION concentration has the following 5 modules:
- Advanced Financial Accounting;
- Advanced Management Accounting;
- International Taxation;
- Financial Instruments in Accounting;
- Accounting Seminar.
The DEVELOPMENT FINANCE concentration has the following 5 modules:
- Finance & Growth;
- Financial Development;
- Microfinance;
- Project Management;
- Internship.
ELECTIVE MODULES (in Semesters 3 & 4)
There is a wide range of elective modules, of which you can choose 3. Topics include:
- Arbitrage Theory;
- Asset Management;
- Mergers & Acquisitions;
- Enterprise, Development & Regulation;
- Financial Stability;
- SME & Housing, Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Finance;
- Supervisory Risk Assessment;
- Financial Statement Analysis & Security Valuation
