During the first year of intensive coursework, the doctoral students’ focus will be on methods, while they get through six core courses with 6 ETCS Credits each:
- Mathematical Methods of Economics
- Management Research Methods
- Applied Econometrics
- Advanced Micro Economics and Game Theory
- Academic Competence Training
- Research Colloquia
For students with already advanced skills in mathematics, the first module can be replaced by a higher level course in quantitative methods for finance and economics. Additionally doctoral students will take two elective courses related to their field of specialisation.
Doctoral students are expected to be fully committed to their PhD studies. They will work under the supervision of two advisers who will assist them in specifying a research agenda during their first year. After passing the mandatory exams in the first year the doctoral students will work on their research projects in close interaction with their supervisors. They will be part of a team of doctoral students and scholars dedicated to pose and answer demanding research questions.

Target group
Applicants with a still open research agenda may be admitted only as full-time students. They are expected to be fully committed to their PhD studies and to devote 100% of their working time to the studies for at least three years. They will work under the supervision of two advisers who will assist them in specifying a research agenda during their first year. During the first year of intensive coursework (six core courses with 6 ETCS each), their focus will be on methods. After passing the mandatory exams of the first year they work on their research projects in close interaction with their supervisors.
