The globalization of the markets for financial services forces banks, insurance companies and other financial service provider to consolidate in order to achieve economies of scale, and to specialize in order to achieve economies of scope, having an effect not only on the business model but also on the corresponding business processes. The widely used concept “industrialization of the banking business” basically concerns the increase of performance regarding the companies' business processes. Thus, business process management (BPM) has internationally gained top priority in business management.

The design of bank-specific processes is the central working topic at ProcessLab.
The aim of ProcessLab is to analyze research questions with high relevance to practical needs about the banking-specific business process management by the use of scientific methodologies and to develop suggestions for solutions and improvements. Mostly, research is conducted by participants of the PhD program as dissertation projects, e.g. in the areas of efficiency measurement, process design and the simulation of process structures in interdependent systems.

Head of ProcessLab is Prof. Dr. Jürgen Moormann, who is professor of banking at Frankfurt School of Finance & Management.
