Dr. Genia Kostka
Prof. Dr. Genia Kostka is an Assistant Professor (Juniorprofessorin) in Chinese Business Studies at the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management. Her primary research interests lie in the political economy of contemporary China. She has conducted extensive fieldwork on local government organization and economic development in both rural and urban China, focusing on institutional change and private sector development at the township, county and municipal levels in Anhui province. Her current research projects examine: variations in environmental practices within and between local governments in China; differences in local government capacities for climate change mitigation in China and India; the role of political leaders’ personal agendas in policy formulation; and business market entry strategies in rural China. Professor Kostka has a PhD in Development Studies from the University of Oxford, an MA in International Economics and International Development from SAIS Johns Hopkins University and a BSc in International Relations from the London School of Economics. Prior to undertaking a career in academia, she worked as a strategic management consultant for McKinsey & Company in Berlin. In addition to her position at the Frankfurt School, she is a Professorial Fellow at Tsinghua University in China.
