Prof. Dr. Horst Loechel is Professor of Economics at Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, and Academic Director of the EMBA – Program. Furthermore he is Visiting Professor of Economics at the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) in Shanghai, China, as well as member of the supervisory board of the Shanghai International Banking and Finance Institute (SIBFI).

Professor Löchel joined Frankfurt School in 1997 and has held positions of Acting and Deputy Dean and MBA Director. On long leave from Frankfurt, he was Vice President of the Managing Directors of SIBFI from 2003 to 2009 and Director of the German Centre of Banking and Finance at CEIBS from 2009 to 2011. Prof. Löchel was offered as well a professorship at CEIBS. 2010 and 2011 he successfully completed the "Global Colloquium of Participant Centered Learning" of Harvard Business School in Boston and Shanghai.

Before Frankfurt School, he was Professor of Economics and Acting Head of the Banking and Finance Department at the University of Cooperative Education, Berlin, Germany. He studied economics at the Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe-University in Frankfurt, Germany, where he was also awarded a Ph.D. He started his career as professional banker.

Professor. Löchel teaches and researches in the field of finance and applied macroeconomics with a focus on China and Europe. He publishes regularly in scientific journals and newspapers and is a sought-after speaker at conferences. He just edited the book (jointly with Chun Chang) China’s changing Banking Industry.

He is member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the Asia-Pacific Business Review Journal and of the Journal of Money, Banking and Finance. He is in charge of the Europe China Business Management Training Project (BMT) and the EU – China Research Fellowship Programme.
