On Tuesday, January 12, 2016, alumni and students of Frankfurt School of Finance & Management met for the preview of the new movie THE BIG SHORT. Paramount Pictures had sponsored the evening, inviting everyone to the E-Kinos in Frankfurt.
The movie is based on the bestselling book “The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine” by Michael Lewis. It follows several traders as they profit from the collapse of the US-American housing market by betting against the market. The movie looks at the mechanisms of the financial system as well as the motivations of the people inside of it. Students and alumni got the chance to compare what they had learned of the financial crisis to how it is depicted in the movie.
FS-Alumnus David Kauter explained: “I think THE BIG SHORT is an entertaining and very educational movie. It sheds an interesting and compelling light on the actions and interrelations that triggered the financial crisis. A must-see for everyone interested in financial markets.”
