On May 1, 2017, Karsten Löffler joined the Frankfurt School - UNEP Collaborating Centre for Climate & Sustainable Energy Finance as Co-Head. He will work together with Silvie Kreibiehl, who has been the head of the centre since 2013. Prior to his appointment, Mr Löffler worked at Allianz Group for over 28 years, most recently as Allianz Climate Solutions GmbH’s managing director. He successfully positioned the financial services provider toward the implications of climate change, making it one of the global frontrunners across its lines of business. A key element of this was finding appealing business solutions, e.g. incubating Allianz Group’s renewable energy investment offering, or increasing transparency and understanding of climate risks. In the area of insurance, he focused on providing natural catastrophe cover in developing countries.
“We are excited to welcome Karsten Löffler at Frankfurt School, further strengthening our climate finance team“, says Professor Dr Udo Steffens, President of Frankfurt School of Finance & Management. “Combining the private sector finance perspective with a deep understanding of the global political agenda and the role of the public sector, Karsten Löffler is uniquely positioned to lead the team to the next level, jointly with Silvie Kreibiehl.”
