Personal Details

Markus Maedler is Senior Lecturer in the Accounting department and former Director Executive MBA Programs. Prior to joining Frankfurt School, he was for many years a member of the Accounting & Control faculty at IESE Business School in Barcelona, Spain, where he also acted as Academic Director of some international open-enrolment and in-company executive education programs.

For some 15 years (and counting), Markus has taught extensively at globally top-ranked business schools in graduate and executive programs. Leveraging a rather unconventional profile of case teaching skills, cross-disciplinary general management perspective, and academic leadership competences, his teaching has reached professionals, managers, top executives, and Board members from around the globe. In addition, his expertise has been consulted by firms and start-ups in industries like banking, manufacturing, real estate, and services.

Before his academic career, Markus gained several years of international work experience in banking, consulting and public administration. His interests focus on General Management and the role of accounting information and control systems in strategic management, organizational governance, and risk management.

Markus is also Adjunct Faculty in Executive and Professional MBA programs at WU Executive Academy in Vienna (Austria) and at the Mahindra School of Management in Hyderabad (India). He earned his undergraduate degree in Germany, his MBA in Spain, and his Ph.D. in Accounting at New York's Columbia University. In his spare time, Markus enjoys fine wine & dining, sports, lifelong learning, and time with his family.
