Access to finance for all communities and suitable financial products can present important opportunities, though sound risk management will be key. Digital technologies can play a key role in expanding financial inclusion and overcoming many of the constraints in local regulation and financial market infrastructure

The Digital & Inclusive Finance Track aims to explore the undisputable link between technological innovations and financial inclusion. The digital finance approach is the most promising way to advance financial inclusion since it offers benefits to both providers and customers. The main themes that will be addressed revolve around Digital Finance and Financial Inclusion as overall topics, some of the more specific subjects include Digital Transformation, Digital Finance Ecosystem, Key Technologies and Trends, Financial Inclusion Policymaking, the Potential of Digital Financial Inclusion and the link between Financial Inclusion and Climate Change.

Provisional Agenda

The agenda is packed full of interactive sessions with seasoned industry experts, networking sessions as well as entertainment and external site visits.*

Site Visit

On the afternoon of Wednesday 5 July, participants will get the chance to visit a German instituion for an external site visit. The site visit offers a more practical perspective on some of the industry's most pressing challenges.

Trend Elective

The trend elective opens up the whole Summer Academy for all participants. Perhaps you've always been fascinated by cyber security, or the topic of loss and damage is particularly relevant for you and your instituion. The trend elective morning will also allow you to meet and engage with other participants from other disciplines.

Learning Objectives

The inclusive & digital finance track will have the following objectives:

• Understanding of digital transformation process and the impact on financial institutions

• Ability to understand the business impact of disruptive technologies and how they can be applied to innovate business models and processes

• Get an overview of digital finance ecosystem, key trends and challenges and understand the key stakeholders and their dynamics

• Get a comprehensive glimpse of the global financial inclusion landscape and discuss the main challenges that the goal of effective financial inclusion faces, focusing on critical policy areas, both from the practitioners and the policymakers’ perspective. As a new topic, the track will address the link between financial inclusion and climate change and its implications.

• Discuss the key elements behind the digital financial inclusion ecosystem and recognize the approaches required in an enabling regulatory framework.

• Explore the innovative features of the Malaysia's Financial Inclusion Framework 2023 – 2026.

Target Group

The Summer Academy will cater to a wide range of finance professionals from commercial banks, microfinance institutions, central banks and regulatory/government institutions, development organisations, and donor agencies.

This track in particular will prove highly valuable for practitioners such as financial service providers, both banks and non-banks such as microfinance institutions, including fintechs and other financial sector innovators. The track will also be helpful for financial regulators involved in the drafting of prudential and digital financial inclusion regulations, and other policymakers currently implementing inclusive and digital finance initiatives and programs. International development agencies and organisations may also find the track useful for advancing institutional goals.

Christian Hecker

Christian Hecker has conceptualised and created executive trainings and interactive workshops for executive clients for many years. Christian covers executive trainings for large corporates, banks, investment companies, and public organisations. Trainings and workshops are held in Germany as well as international training mandates mainly in Asia, Africa and other European countries,

Christian has been selected to speak at leading universities including Zhejiang University, Stanford University, University of Edinburgh, and Frankfurt School of Finance and Management.

Ricardo Estrada

Ricardo Estrada

Ricardo has been the tutor for the Certified Expert in Financial Inclusion Policy course at Frankfurt School for a number of years. He also works with the financial regulation institution in his home country Guatemala, where he leads a regulations team that is mainly in charge of risk management and financial inclusion projects, among other regulatory topics. In such capacity, he is currently also leading his country’s NFIS Technical Implementation Committee.

Administrative Details

The tuition fee for the trainings is EUR 5,700 and it covers all training materials, catering as well as transportation for any site visits*.

The Summer Academies are fully tuition based and not sponsored. Accordingly, participants are required to cover the full costs of the training or find a sponsor.

There are several combinable discounts for the Summer Academy:

  • 15% Early Bird Discount for all registrations made before 30 April 2023.

  • 10% Group Discount for each institution sending more than one participant to the programme.

  • 10% Alumni Discount for participants who have previously studied with Frankfurt School.

The Summer Academy will be held at the Frankfurt School campus.
