Frankfurt am Main, 15.04.2015 12:00:00

On Monday, April 13, 2015, a kick-off event was held to launch the new 2015/2016 round of the Frankfurt School mentoring programme, “For FOUR eyes only!”. This year, the Career Services and Alumni Management teams at Frankfurt School of Finance & Management have brought 25 alumni – including five alumnae – on board as mentors, in response to enormous student interest prior to the new programme launch. At the event, the 25 mentor-mentee pairs were able to meet and celebrate the start of their 12-month mentoring partnership. The mentoring programme has been a staple part of Frankfurt School’s offering since 2006.

After a welcome address by Karin Reuschenbach-Coutinho, Head of Career Services at Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, Marcus Michel –a member of the executive committee of FS Alumni e.V. – outlined the idea behind the mentoring programme and encouraged all those present to become more closely involved with the business school and alumni association.

Professor Dr Erich Barthel, Professor of Corporate Culture & Leadership at Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, then spoke about the history of mentoring, describing the mentor’s role in more detail. “Mentors support mentees by giving them advice and sharing life experience,” he told the audience, “but they are not coaches or trainers.” Karin Reuschenbach-Coutinho concluded by describing the aims of Frankfurt School’s mentoring programme and how the programme is structured, emphasising that “mentoring is one of the most effective ways of transferring knowledge and helping individuals to develop both personally and professionally.” The programme benefits both partners in a pairing – students are given valuable guidance as they make decisions about their future careers, and mentors are given an opportunity to share their knowledge and experience.

The subsequent buffet gave mentors and mentees an opportunity to get to know each other personally, and to discuss their mentoring partnership in more detail.
