On Saturday, November 12, 2016, alumni, students, parents and employees came together to celebrate the great annual Homecoming party at Frankfurt School of Finance & Management. The event strengthens the sense of community across the different academic years, education programmes and courses, giving everybody plenty of opportunity to meet up with old friends and make new ones.
Earlier that afternoon, some 50 alumni from the classes of 1996 and 2006 arrived at the campus to learn more about digitisation in two seminars. Professor Dr Jürgen Moormann, Concardis Professor of Bank and Process Management at Frankfurt School, delved into the digitisation of the banking industry, while Oliver Matthews, Head of Marketing & Recruitment at Frankfurt School, gave a revealing talk on “LinkedIn for Career Development”, in which he explained how to make more effective use of the social media platform. Professor Dr Michael Grote, Frankfurt School’s Vice President Academic Affairs, then welcomed the alumni to an exclusive champagne reception at which he discussed the future of Frankfurt School’s strategic development.
The big Homecoming party started in the evening, attended by over 600 guests. At 7.00 p.m., Frankfurt School student Darius Greulich and his 2acoustical duo opened the event with live music; DJ Purple Haze took over the musical entertainment later in the evening. Alumni and students alike were delighted by the Craft Beer Bar, where an impressive selection of more than 20 tasty beers awaited discovery. Student initiative FS Events also looked after the guests by providing drinks and tasty grilled delicacies from the winter barbecue.
The Homecoming party served as the perfect platform for launching student crowdfunding campaign “Raise the Roof”. Student spokesperson Fabian Aymann took to the stage to present the concept to the party guests. The students behind the campaign hope to raise 400,000 euros to build a roof terrace on the new Frankfurt School campus. The terrace is intended to act as a pleasant area for meetings and relaxation during the busy university day. The Give & Win raffle in support of “Raise the Roof” met with a very favourable response. In return for a minimum donation of 100 euros, guests bought tickets for a raffle featuring exotic prizes in the form of exclusive escapades with Frankfurt School sponsors. Typical prizes included VIP tickets to see the Fraport Skyliners basketball team in action, headed by their joint captain Max Merz (a Frankfurt School student), and an exclusive opportunity to meet and greet Olympic dressage champion Sönke Rothenberger (also a Frankfurt School student!). The evening raffle raised a total of 36,450 euros.
