On Friday, November 16, Frankfurt School of Finance & Management celebrated the graduation of 204 students from the Master of Finance, Master in Management, Master in International Business as well as the Online Master of Leadership in Development Finance at Frankfurt´s Paulskirche.

Professor Dr Nils Stieglitz, President of Frankfurt School, officially welcomed the graduates and their guests. He emphasised that the graduates now have to make new experiences in vivid times of change but chances. “Although you are now prepared for great careers you will have to explore unchartered territory, because we are living in an unstable time. I have two pieces of advice for you: Be ambitious and stay in contact with us and other people you have met here”, said Professor Stieglitz. Thus, Frankfurt School´s president was proud to welcome Alexander Doll, Member of the Management Board for Freight Transport and Logistics at Deutsche Bahn as well as FS alumnus, as the ceremony´s official guest speaker

On behalf of the city of Frankfurt, Dr Bernd Heidenreich, City Councilor, congratulated the graduates. He appealed to the graduates to use their new knowledge and skills in a responsible way. Also, he emphasised that the social market economy is Germany´s formula of success and businesses without ethical principles will fail.

Curiosity crucial for individual success

The laudation was held by Alexander Doll, who graduated from the business school in 1997. In his speech, he emphasised how attractive Frankfurt School has become to international students. “I am really proud of the school´s development. Today, there are graduates from 40 different countries – completely different to the time when I have graduated”, said Alexander Doll.

The former FS student always wanted to work in a field where he could make an impact. Because of that, he started an international career in banking. “To go a successful path you should always ask questions, be curios and never lose interest – always reflect on yourself”, he explained.

Furthermore, Alexander Doll emphasised that Europe has to be careful of not losing track. According to the FS alumnus there are more and more international competitors, especially from Asia, who are very fast. Therefore, the graduates should never forget to ask questions.

On behalf of the Association of Credit Institutions in Frankfurt (IFK), Frank Behrends, Chairman of IFK as well as Members of the Board of Managing Directors at ODDO BHF presented awards for academic excellence to the year’s top-scoring graduates.

Following, Dr Friedrich Klein, COO of NORMA Group SE, presented the Manufacturing Management Award. The award is presented to students graduating from Frankfurt School´s Master in Management by the Industrieseminar Frankfurt institute, in recognition of outstanding master´s theses of relevance to the manufacturing industry. NORMA sponsors the prize.

Also, Professor Dr Michael Grote, Vice President Academic Affairs at Frankfurt School, presented the FIRM (Frankfurt Institute of Risk Management and Regulation) Risk Management Award. The award goes to the three top-scoring graduates on Frankfurt School´s Master of Finance programme with the Risk Management concentration.

After that, Professor Dr Nils Stieglitz and Professor Dr Grote as well as the programme directors, presented the new graduates with their degree certfificates.

Student Reflection: FS community learns from each other

On behalf of the student body Christian des Pallieres, Master of Finance graduate and former treasurer of the FS Student Council, looked back on the last years at the business school. “During our time here, we learned from each other’s experiences, watching and supporting each other in both our successes and failures, all within a microcosm of the real world, all here at Frankfurt School”, said the graduate.
