We invite applications for a post-doctoral research position in Ethics of Artificial Intelligence & Data Science (16 month, fixed term, E13 scale).
We are looking for a post-doctoral researcher in philosophy whose research focus concerns normative/ethical questions that are raised by data science and applied machine learning. The position is part of the interdisciplinary project “Regulatory Theories of Artificial Intelligence” (“Normordnung Künstlicher Intelligenz”) of the Center for Responsible Digitization, funded by the state of Hessen’s Ministry for Digital Strategy and Development. The project investigates how normative questions raised by artificial intelligence and machine learning should be answered, as well as mechanisms to enforce such answers (e.g., by algorithmic or humancomputer design, public policy, or existing legal regulation). The post-doctoral researcher is expected to contribute to this project and to help with the organization of an international conference on the philosophy of data science (with a focus on responsibility and data science). The starting date is November 1st of 2021 at the latest. The project funding ends February 28, 2023.
At the Frankfurt School, the position is located in the Department of Philosophy & Law and within the multidisciplinary Centre for Human and Machine Intelligence. The associated PIs at the Frankfurt School are Sebastian Köhler and Gregory Wheeler. Candidates must have a PhD in Philosophy, a strong record of research publications appropriate to their career stage, and a research profile that broadly fits into the project “Regulatory Theories of Artificial Intelligence.”
The deadline for applications is 15th of September 2021. Please submit with your application your CV, a one-page research profile and contact information for at least two references by email to Ms. Mago Konopnicka.
