Overview

Investors are grappling with how to integrate Environmental Social Governance (ESG) and impact criteria into their investments. This track gives participants the opportunity to meet industry leaders and experts who are doing this in practice

This track is for you if you frequently ask:

• Are ESG and Impact Investing different concepts that get applied separately or just different terminology for the same thing i.e. non-financial attributes of investments?

• Can I apply ESG and Impact Investing concepts across my whole portfolio / all asset classes, or are these issues only relevant for a part of my assets?

• How do I recognise “ESG/impact washing” and does it matter?

This track introduces you to the different types of actors involved in ESG and Impact investing. It showcases how these actors manage ESG and impact by being clear about the different types of non-financial goals they are concerned about: exposures, risks, outputs, or outcomes.

ESG & Impact Investing Agenda 2024 - Provisional.

Site Visit

On the afternoon of Wednesday 10 July, participants will get the chance to visit a German instituion for an external site visit. The site visit offers a more practical perspective on some of the industry's most pressing challenges.

Trend Elective

The trend elective opens up the whole Summer Academy for all participants. Perhaps you've always been fascinated by cyber security, or the topic of loss and damage is particularly relevant for you and your instituion. The trend elective morning will also allow you to meet and engage with other participants from other disciplines.

Learning Objectives

The ESG & Impact Investing track will have the following objectives:

• How are the concepts of ESG and impact related to each other, and which aspects are relevant to me.

• Understand of the different motivations of the different types of actors – and meet them!

• Be more informed to recognise “ESG/ impact washing” – and be better prepared to avoid doing it yourself.

• Increase your knowledge and awareness of how to integrate non-financial factors into your investment decision-making and management processes.

Target Group

The Summer Academy will cater to a wide range of finance professionals from commercial banks, microfinance institutions, central banks and regulatory/government institutions, development organisations, and donor agencies.

This track is suitable to any kind of actor in the ESG and impact investing field. You will either be actively involved in finance or sufficiently knowledgeable about finance. This track is suitable for people who want to deepen their understanding of ESG and impact investing by meeting leading experts in the field.

Track Lecturers

Karl H. Richter

Co-founder of EngagedX, which is a consultancy specialising in impact investing, thought leadership, data and tech development, advocacy and policy work. Karl works internationally across private, public, and social sectors. He lectures at the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management.

Karl's previous experiences include a 12 month assignment as Head of Research and Knowledge for the UNDP SDG Impact Finance initiative (UNSIF), where he led research to improve the analytical framework for social impact investing; membership of Groupe d'Experts de la Commission sur l'Entrepreneuriat Social (GECES) of the European Commission to advise on its Social Business Initiative; part of the OECD expert group on social impact investing. Karl is currently Senior Fellow of the Finance Innovation Lab; and adviser to several organisations, including the China Alliance for Social Value Investment.

Administrative Details

The tuition fee for the trainings is EUR 5,700 and it covers all training materials, catering as well as transportation for any site visits*.

The Summer Academies are fully tuition based and not sponsored. Accordingly, participants are required to cover the full costs of the training or find a sponsor.

There are several combinable discounts for the Summer Academy:

15% Early Bird Discount for all registrations made before 30 March 2024.

10% Group Discount for each institution sending more than one participant to the programme.

10% Alumni Discount for participants who have previously studied with Frankfurt School.

The Summer Academy will be held at the Frankfurt School campus. Being one of the leading business schools in Germany and Europe, Frankfurt School offers modern facilities for an interactive senior training program. Our training rooms are equipped with the newest technology and the newest media to provide flexibility and quality in our training courses.

We have a strong focus on the wellbeing of our guests and course participants, a good training environment, air quality and modern equipment.

Language

The language of instruction will be English and no translation will be provided.
