Frankfurt School attended the 8th AMFA Biennial Microfinance Conference on “New Opportunities on the Horizon: Translating Challenges into Perspectives” on October 6-7, 2016. The conference has been organized by the Azerbaijan Microfinance Association - AMFA in Baku, Azerbaijan. While the economic crisis in Azerbaijan accelerated the economic diversification efforts of the Azerbaijani government and increased attention to agriculture sector, effects of crisis led to stagnation in the financial sector and decreased willingness to finance agriculture sector.
Among others, AMFA conference this year focused on innovative agricultural solutions to meet smallholder needs. Relying on its world-wide experience in this area, Frankfurt School delivered a presentation on agricultural finance solutions tailored to the specificities of Azerbaijan. The conference also enabled Frankfurt School to present the progress and outcomes achieved so far within its ongoing AZAFF programme – a joint initiative of the EBRD and the European Union launched to support agricultural development in Azerbaijan. Since September 2015, Frankfurt School has been implementing the technical assistance component of AZAFF.
