Professor of Practice in Central Banking
Jens Weidmann joined the faculty in June as a professor of practice in central banking. He is currently the chair of Commerzbank‘s supervisory board and a member of the governmental commission on the German corporate governance code.
Previously he was President of the German central bank and member of the ECB Governing Council. He also was a member and later chaired the board of the Bank for International Settlements in Basel. Before that he worked as a Director General in the Federal Chancellery and acted as economic advisor to Chancellor Merkel and as her sherpa for the G8- and G20 summits. During his career he worked as an economist at the International Monetary Fund, headed the scientific staff at the German Council of Economic Experts and was a deputy department head at the Deutsche Bundesbank.
Jens Weidmann studied economics in Aix-en-Provence and Bonn and received his Ph.D. from the University of Bonn.
