Our Mission

The Frankfurt School Blockchain Center is a think tank and research center which investigates implications of the blockchain technology for companies and their business models. Besides the development of prototypes, it serves as a platform for managers, start-ups, technology and industry experts to share knowledge and best practices. The Blockchain Center also provides new research impulses and develops trainings for students and executives. It focuses on banking, mobility, “Industrie 4.0” and the energy sector.

Foster understanding of blockchain technology and their business potential for a variety of stakeholders.

Generate new knowledge about commercial, managerial and societal implications of blockchain technologies.

News

Seminar: Blockchain, Asset Management, und Venture Capital on November 23, 2017: The goal of this event is to assess the question how blockchain technology will affect asset management and venture capital. Asset management will change due to entirely new business processes running via smart contracts. Venture capital might be disrupted with ICOs arising as a new funding mechanism. This event is jointly organized with the Bundesverband Alternative Investments e.V. (BAI). More information.

Workshop “Implementing DLT use cases with Corda” on November 29, 2017: The Frankfurt School Blockchain Center organizes a joint workshop with R3, a DLT consortium which has been founded by 42 financial institutions worldwide and now counts more than 100 members. The goal of the workshop is to explain Corda as a DLT framework and to show how a first Corda project could be implemented. Importantly, we use a set of real examples to highlight how Corda code looks in detail. More information.

Seminar: "Blockchain for Beginners and First Pilot Project" on December 11, 2017: Blockchain is now a topic of broad interest because of its disruptive potential in almost all industries. The event aims to offer an introduction to blockchain, cryptocurrencies, and smart contracts, including many examples and use cases. More information.

Seminar: Development of Smart Contracts and Use Cases on Ethereum" on January 25, 2018: Based on the showcase on a real project, the seminar covers the fundamentals of Ethereum and the concept of smart contracts. Participants will gain insights through showing the "making of" of a real project in the area of mobility. This project showcases the development of a distributed app, related smart contracts and the integration into business processes. More Information.

Proof of concept on trading loans using Ethereum

While many different institutions work on the settlement part of trading financial instruments, few have looked into the advantages Blockchain can offer for trading of loans.

In a proof of concept we show the following advantages:

  • Easier bondholder communication while keeping holders anonymous
  • Anonymous BWICs and AWICs while trust is established through distribution using the technology layer
  • Smart contracts enable the inclusion of fiat currencies into the transaction flow

Study on patent ownership of crypto currency-related technologies
  • Analysis of patents filed in the area of blockchain and crypto currencies
  • Core technology cannot be protected due to open source
  • But increasingly strong patent activity for various further facets of related technologies
  • Mostly US financial companies file patents
