Lucas Böttcher ist Assistenzprofessor für rechnergestützte Wissenschaften an der Frankfurt School of Finance & Management.
Lucas schloss sein Doktorat in angewandter Mathematik und rechnergestützter Physik an der ETH Zürich im Jahr 2018 ab. Vor seiner Berufung an die Frankfurt School arbeitete er als Dozent am Institut für Theoretische Physik an der ETH Zürich, wo er Kurse in rechnergestützter und statistischer Physik unterrichtete. Im Jahr 2020 trat er als Wissenschaftler und Stipendiat des Schweizer Nationalfonds den Departementen für rechnergestützte Medizin und Mathematik an der UCLA bei. Lucas hat auch im privaten Sektor als Computational Scientist in der Digital Solutions Group der Leoni AG, einem führenden Hersteller von Kabeln und Leitungen, gearbeitet.
Seine Forschung nutzt und entwickelt numerische und analytische Methoden, um verschiedene angewandte Probleme zu lösen. Er interessiert sich auch dafür, grundlegende Fragen in angewandter und rechnergestützter Mathematik, statistischer Mechanik und dem maschinellem Lernen zu beantworten. In seiner aktuellen Forschung konzentriert sich Lucas auf die Modellierung und Steuerung hochdimensionaler stochastischer Prozesse und dynamischer Systeme, die Entwicklung von Netzwerkanalysemethoden und die Entwicklung von Datenassimilierungssystemen, um mechanistische Modelle und empirische Daten zu verbinden.
