Das Frankfurt School – UNEP Collaborating Centre for Climate & Sustainable Energy Finance ist eine strategische Kooperation zwischen der Frankfurt School und dem Umweltprogramm der Vereinten Nationen (UNEP). Das FS-UNEP Centre hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, durch die Zusammenarbeit mit Finanzakteuren im Rahmen strategischer Beratungsleistungen transformative Veränderungen zu fördern und dabei innovative, intelligente und praxisnahe Lösungen zu entwickeln. Das Centre verfolgt einen einzigartigen Ansatz, indem es Forschung und Praxiserfahrung miteinander verbindet, um die Finanzierung des Übergangs zu einer grüneren, klimaresilienten Zukunft zu ermöglichen, in der Gesellschaften nachhaltig gedeihen können.
Klima- und nachhaltige Energiefinanzierung ist ein zunehmend wichtiges, fachübergreifendes Thema, das häufig Synergien mit unseren anderen Kernthemen aufweist. Daher unterstützen wir Finanzinstitute weltweit bei der Umsetzung einer breiten Palette von Aktivitäten – aufbauend auf unserer bestehenden Expertise in anderen thematischen Bereichen.
How FS-UNEP Creates Impact
Assess
We identify and assess climate, nature-related, and broader sustainability risks and opportunities across economies, institutions, portfolios, products, sectors, and on the project level. This includes climate and nature risk screenings and assessments, climate scenario analysis, and identifying quantitative and qualitative sustainable investment needs. Prooven approaches following tailored capacity building plans to close identified risks and needs ensures full client satisfaction. Cross-department engagement of our risk management and compliance experts and climate and disaster risk finance colleagues ensures comprehensive coverage across all relevant areas.
Design & Structure
We develop sustainable finance strategies, financial instruments, thematic funds, facilities, and credit lines, and project pipelines, including support for origination, structuring, underwriting, and financing readiness - ensuring compliance and aligning with international good practices and standards, such as environmental and social management systems (ESSM), incl. environmental and social safeguards.
Implement
We work with public and private actors to implement finance solutions , strengthen institutional and staff capacities, align products and processes with regulations and standards, and support supervisory and policy frameworks. Following international standards and good practice from frontrunners, we help clients turn finance solutions into practical implementation steps.
