On Tuesday, November 26, representatives of five renowned institutions from business and academia signed a resolution at the Frankfurt Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK Frankfurt am Main) to promote the digital cluster and strengthen Frankfurt as a European capital of digitalization. The resolution is supported by the following institutions:

  • Frankfurt School of Finance & Management
  • Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences
  • Goethe University Frankfurt
  • Chamber of Crafts Frankfurt-Rhine-Main
  • IHK Frankfurt am Main

In the resolution, the signatories also outlined measures they consider necessary to strengthen Frankfurt’s position as a digitalization hub. To reinforce the digital cluster, the resolution identifies the expansion of digital infrastructure—particularly the establishment and operation of new data centers—as essential. According to the supporting institutions, this is the only way to keep the location attractive for innovative companies and startups.

This would also make a significant contribution toward achieving climate protection goals in the city and region. Already today, universities and institutions in the region are successfully working on Green IT, developing technologies for energy-efficient high-performance computing and data centers, and unlocking potential savings. Examples include using artificial intelligence (AI) to manage and optimize traffic flows on roads and railways, organize sharing and leasing systems, and enable remote maintenance of complex systems of all kinds.

Angelika Werner, Vice President Strategic Relations, represented Frankfurt School:

“For Frankfurt to remain a thriving business location, stakeholders from politics, business, academia, and society must join forces in digitalization and AI initiatives. Together, we need to create an attractive environment for tech companies, data centers, and startups. They drive innovation and secure future-proof jobs. This joint resolution is intended to initiate decisive measures to strengthen Frankfurt as a digitalization capital. Frankfurt School is fully committed!”
