Ricardo Estrada Lecturer

Ricardo has 25 years of work experience in the financial sector. He worked with the Guatemala’s Financial Regulator (Superintendency of Banks) for more than 22 years, leading the development of prudential, risk management and digital financial inclusion regulations and financial markets laws, and the enhancement of the market discipline in the local financial system. He coordinated the development and implementation of the country’s National Financial Inclusion Strategy.

About

Ricardo has been teaching at Frankfurt School for the past 10 years in the following programmes: Certified Expert in Risk Management in Spanish (CERM),  Certificate Expert in Financial Inclusion Policy (CEFI) and the Digital & Inclusive Finance track of the FS Summer Academy. 

Moreover, he is an academic consultant and professor for the Guatemalan Banking Association. He’s also faculty member in the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina, the Microfinance Learning and Development Centre of Nigeria and in three private universities in Guatemala. In such capacities he teaches Risk Management, Capital Markets, Corporate Governance, Macroeconomics, Monetary Policy and Digital Financial Inclusion.

Ricardo worked for two years with the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI), based in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, as the Digital Financial Services and SME Finance manager. He’s also done consulting work for USAID (USA), GIZ (Germany), AHIBA (Honduras), and GSMA. He has lectured in Latin America (El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, and Bolivia); Asia (Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and Armenia); Africa (South Africa, Tanzania, Senegal, and Ivory Coast); and Europe (Germany, Switzerland, Russia, and North Macedonia).

Ricardo holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, a postgraduate degree in Economics, a Master's degree in Finance, and expert certifications in Fintech and Regulatory Innovation, Digital Finance, and Microfinance.
