Global Shield Against Climate Risks Appoints Marike Brady as Director of the Secretariat

The Global Shield Secretariat joined Frankfurt School of Finance & Management in January 2026
The Global Shield Against Climate Risks today announced the appointment of Marike Brady as Director of the Global Shield Secretariat, effective May 1, 2026. She will lead the Secretariat at a pivotal moment, as the Global Shield enters a new phase—shifting from incubation to acceleration and strengthening delivery at scale.
Marike Brady currently serves as Team Lead of the Global Shield Secretariat and brings more than 20 years of experience in insurance, disaster risk and development finance. Her work has focused on advancing financial solutions that strengthen financial protection against climate and disaster-related risks, particularly for vulnerable countries and communities.
Her appointment comes as the Global Shield Secretariat transitions to Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, which assumed hosting responsibilities in January 2026. This transition supports the Global Shield’s next phase, with a focus on advancing country-level implementation, resource mobilisation and enhancing coordination across the Global Shield architecture.
“As host of the Global Shield Secretariat, Frankfurt School is proud to support this next phase of the Global Shield’s development,” said Eugen Doce, Senior Director of International Advisory Services at Frankfurt School of Finance & Management. “The Global Shield mission is to strengthen the financial protection of climate-vulnerable people and communities by increasing access to pre-arranged finance—and strong leadership of the Secretariat is central to delivering on that mission. Marike brings deep expertise, team leadership and a strong commitment to country-led approaches, and we look forward to working with her to accelerate implementation, strengthen coordination, and scale impact.”
“I am honored to take on the role of Director for the Secretariat at this important juncture and want to express my gratitude to Dr. Astrid Zwick and Mr. Nilesh Prakash who led the Secretariat so adeptly from its establishment until our transition to Frankfurt School,” said Marike Brady. “As climate impacts intensify, strengthening financial protection systems is more urgent than ever. The Global Shield advances a different model—ensuring finance is in place before disasters strike—and I look forward to working with partners to accelerate delivery and scale impact.”
About the Global Shield Against Climate Risks
Launched at COP27 by the G7 and V20, the Global Shield against Climate Risks represents a structural shift in disaster risk finance. It supports partner countries in embedding pre-arranged finance within national public financial management systems—strengthening financial architecture, enabling innovation, and ensuring that protection is automatic, accountable, and country-led. By securing funding before disaster strikes, the Global Shield helps prevent climate shocks from escalating into fiscal crises.
