Bachelor in Management, Philosophy & EconomicsBSc

Many decisions don’t fail because the numbers were wrong. They fail because the question was.

In an age of AI, success depends not just on what you know, but on how clearly you think. The Bachelor in Management, Philosophy & Economics (BSc) at Frankfurt School of Finance & Management is a demanding programme that develops rigorous thinkers for complex problems—where automation falls short, trade-offs are real, and answers aren’t obvious.

By combining the analytical depth of philosophy with business studies and economics, the programme cultivates clarity of thought, methodological discipline and economic expertise. It is designed for students stimulated by challenging ideas who want to understand economics and society in a way that masters complexity rather than avoids it.

FOCUS & FORMAT

Target Group

This programme is right for you if:

  • You are driven by intellectual curiosity and seek a degree that challenges what others take for granted.
  • You are eager to engage seriously with the economic, socio-political and ethical questions raised by a rapidly changing world.
  • You aim both to build economic expertise and to strengthen your analytical edge —arguing convincingly, dissecting problems and separating signal from noise.
  • You want to see the bigger picture without losing precision in the details.

Study Model

The programme is taught in English on a full-time basis. You’ll attend lectures four to five days a week (Monday–Saturday), with at least one day off. Alongside your studies, you can also take up a part-time working-student job to gain real-world experience. During the extended summer break, you have the opportunity to complete full-time internships.

How we teach

We believe that you learn most effectively through individual feedback. That is why the MPE's philosophy component places a strong emphasis on close personal supervision. Modelled on the tutorial systems at Oxford and Cambridge, your work is discussed in individually tailored teaching sessions, allowing for intensive engagement with your ideas in small groups. That way, you learn to sharpen open-ended problems, develop your own solutions and defend them clearly and persuasively.

In parallel with your training in critical thinking and socio-political analysis, you develop a rigorous command of economics and business studies that combines theoretical depth with practical relevance. You not only work hands-on with empirical methods and data analysis; you also learn how to turn your knowledge into effective solutions to concrete business challenges.

Throughout the programme, you work closely with an interdisciplinary faculty whose leading research and international teaching experience ensure that the MPE curriculum reflects the latest insights and developments.

Career Opportunities

The MPE does not merely offer the same career prospects as a classical business degree – it offers more.

Its interdisciplinary structure equips graduates with a distinctive profile that sets them apart in highly competitive environments and appeals to employers who value analytical rigour, multi-perspective reasoning and the capacity for originality – qualities that are becoming indispensable in an AI-driven economy.

At the same time, the programme enables students to pursue career paths that genuinely reflect their interests and strengths. MPE graduates enter a wide range of fields, including management and finance, consulting, public institutions and policy-related roles, entrepreneurship and academia. Some move directly into their chosen careers, others found start-ups, others again continue with graduate-level studies.

Our graduates progress to Master’s programmes at leading national and international universities, including the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, the London School of Economics, HEC Paris and the Hertie School. They succeed in careers spanning global consulting firms such as McKinsey, KPMG, and Boston Consulting Group; public institutions including the European Central Bank and federal ministries; as well as industry and entrepreneurial ventures.

In doing so, they benefit from a BSc programme that provides an enduring foundation for demanding careers, equipping them to meet the evolving professional and intellectual challenges of a rapidly changing world.

Study Abroad

The programme prepares you for a global career. That’s why you will spend your fifth semester abroad at one of our partner universities and also complete an internship.

Our International Office supports you throughout the process – from selecting a partner university to organising your stay abroad, including visas, housing and your motivation letter.

FAQ: BACHELOR IN MANAGEMENT, PHILOSOPHY & ECONOMICS

No, you need not have studied philosophy – nor economics or business, for that matter – at school.

Helpful qualities include intellectual curiosity, analytical thinking skills and confidence in working with formal methods. You should also be curious about the broader world, being interested not only in business, but in the political, social and ethical challenges that shape our time.

Philosophical thinking depends on careful analysis and clear logical reasoning, but also on understanding the problem from the perspective of others. By training you to strip away irrelevant details and assess the merits of competing solutions, philosophy enables you to cut through the noise, deliver decisive criticism and give concise and convincing arguments for your position. In doing so, it builds essential skills you will need in whatever career path you choose.

Many MPE graduates choose to pursue a Master’s degree, often at prestigious universities in Germany or abroad. Others move straight into the job of their choice or launch their own ventures or start-ups.

MPE graduates build successful careers across a wide range of sectors. For instance, they work for leading consultancies, investment banks, central banks such as the ECB, government ministries and global companies including Porsche and Tesla.
