Frankfurt am Main, 11.04.2023 12:00:00

Frankfurt School of Finance & Management has appointed Jens Weidmann as Professor. He will join the faculty as Professor of Practice in Central Banking in the Finance Department on 1 June 2023. With Jens Weidmann, Frankfurt School is expanding its expertise in teaching and research on central banking topics and macroeconomic issues.

“In politics, academia and research, as President of Deutsche Bundesbank and in the ECB Governing Council, Jens Weidmann has addressed and shaped central banking issues”, says Professor Nils Stieglitz, Frankfurt School President and CEO. “I am convinced that with his extensive international experience he will contribute significantly to our goal of further strengthening the position of our Finance Department as one of the strongest in Europe in terms of teaching and research. We look forward to working with him.”

Central banking issues – such as monetary policy, payment transactions and regulation – have an enormous impact on the macroeconomy and financial markets. They play a key role in economic development and the transformation in which the world, Europe and Germany find themselves. On these topics, Frankfurt School is excellently positioned and networked in research and teaching. For example, Professor Emanuel Mönch, who holds a professorship in Financial and Monetary Economics, was previously Head of Research at Bundesbank and a Research Fellow at the Federal Reserve in New York. Professor Falko Fecht, Bundesbank’s current Head of Research, has also been a Frankfurt School faculty member for many years and is now a Visiting Professor. This expertise is complemented by Professor Benjamin Born, Associate Professor of Macroeconomics at Frankfurt School and Research Professor at the ifo Institute.

Rainer Neske, Chairman of Frankfurt School’s Board of Trustees of and Chairman of the Board of Management of Landesbank Baden-Württemberg (LBBW), sees the appointment of Jens Weidmann as Professor as a consistent continuation of the previous cooperation with him: “I am proud and delighted that Jens Weidmann is joining Frankfurt School as a Professor. During his time as a member of the Board of Trustees, he strongly contributed to shaping the development of the business school for many years and provided significant support for strategic initiatives, including the decision to build the new campus. I am convinced that he will enrich the faculty and inspire the entire Frankfurt School community.”

Jens Weidmann: “Frankfurt School is an outstanding European business university. Its development is impressing. Frankfurt School students come from all over the world. Here, they acquire the knowledge and the tools for a successful career. With its international orientation and strong research-output, Frankfurt School’s faculty is inspiring and dynamic. In the classroom and in research, professors address current topics from politics and business. Thus, I am looking forward to joining the Frankfurt School faculty.”

The professorship of Jens Weidmann is 20 per cent.

Jens Weidmann, born in 1968, studied economics at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Bonn, where he earned his Dr. rer. pol. in 1997. After five years in the Chancellor's Office, Jens Weidmann accepted a call to Frankfurt am Main in 2011 to become President of the Bundesbank.
