Sascha Steffen appointed new Vice President Research at Frankfurt School

Professor Sascha Steffen is the new Vice President Research at Frankfurt School of Finance & Management. Following his appointment by the business school’s Faculty Council, the 43-year-old Professor of Finance assumed his role on 1 July 2021. The newly created position is intended to further strengthen Frankfurt School’s focus on research. “We’re delighted to have been able to attract a very strong researcher with truly international experience to this newly created position, which we have set up as part of our ongoing efforts to further develop our already high standards of research excellence”, explains Frankfurt School President Professor Nils Stieglitz.

Unanimously elected to the position by the Faculty Council, Sascha Steffen has been Professor of Finance at Frankfurt School since 2017. He uses the latest empirical methods and innovative data to conduct research at the intersection of financial markets, financial regulation and the non-financial sector. He graduated with a PhD in Finance from Goethe University and has subsequently worked as a Professor of Finance at Mannheim University and the European School of Management and Technology (ESMT) in Berlin. Visiting positions then brought him to NYU Stern School of Business in the USA, the University of Cape Town, and the Center for Economic Studies in Munich (CES-ifo). In his current projects, he investigates the implications of the COVID-19 pandemic for banks and firms, the use of artificial intelligence in monetary policy decisions and the role of banks and shadow banks for financial stability. His research has been published in leading academic journals such as the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics and Review of Financial Studies, and has earned many awards and prizes.
